Teeth whitening is a very simple procedure that can offer impressive results. It involves the application of a biocompatible whitening gel on the teeth, which lifts the stains off the tooth surface by gently bleaching the staining particles. The advancements in dentistry over the past years have brought on new and more effective whitening procedures.
Here’s a list of the most common teeth whitening procedures that will help you choose the one that suits you best:
In-house whitening is the simplest type of teeth whitening and offers excellent results. When you visit our practice, we will determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate for teeth whitening by checking for factors like cavities, receding gum line, restorations, gum disease, the severity of staining, etc.
Next, the dentist will clean your teeth thoroughly and place a rubber dam on them to cover the soft gum tissues. The gel is meticulously applied to the teeth and spread evenly, which helps you get a uniform level of whitening.
After the gel stays on the teeth for a few minutes, we will remove it by rinsing your mouth. The process can be repeated multiple times if you have severely stained teeth or want a more intense tooth whitening.
Take-home whitening kits include custom-fabricated plastic whitening trays and a prescribed whitening gel which you can use in the comfort of your home. We use precise scans of your teeth to fabricate the whitening trays.
Before using the trays, you have to clean your teeth thoroughly by brushing and flossing. You then apply the whitening gel to the trays and place them on your teeth. After a few minutes, you can take them off and rinse your mouth before repeating the procedure.
You should always carry out the procedure as directed by your dentist.
Laser-assisted teeth whitening is a quick and highly efficient procedure of removing stains from the teeth. We use a photosensitive bleaching gel for the procedure, which is far more potent than the conventional one.
Once the gel is applied to the teeth, we will activate it using a laser. It produces a foam that is mainly composed of oxygen molecules, which enters the porous enamel and bleaches hard-to-remove stains.
If you need to get your teeth whitened for an event in a short time span, or if you generally run on a tight schedule, laser-assisted whitening is the perfect solution.
